Who Am I?

Who Is David A. Beck?

I am just a Christian, a member of the church that Jesus built in the first century.

While at Caesarea Philippi, Jesus told His disciples “…I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). The Lord accomplished this mission (John 17:4) and purchased the church with His own blood (Acts 20:28). The church of Christ is made up of people that have been purchased by the blood of the Son of God. We belong to Christ – that is, we are Christians (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Acts 11:26). Jesus Christ is our Savior and head (Ephesians 5:25) and we live to glorify Him. Any church that claims to belong to Jesus Christ should be the same as the church He built and we read about in the New Testament. The Bible is our only guide and all we need to be pleasing to God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3). We simply follow the pattern described in the New Testament. Therefore, we are the church that Jesus built.

Who Can Be A Member Of Jesus Christ’s Church?

Jesus said “I…will draw all peoples to myself” (John 12:32). Jesus also told His apostles to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) and to “preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). Therefore, whoever you are – wherever you are from – YOU can be a member of the church that Jesus built.

How Does One Become A Member Of Christ’s Church?

Since God wants “all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4) He chose to “draw all peoples” to Himself through the teaching of the gospel of Christ (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16). The gospel of Christ is the power of God to save all men from their sins (Romans 1:16). The New Testament teaches that you must believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God (John 3:16; 20:30-31). In order to have such faith you need to understand the gospel (Roman 10:14-17). After hearing the gospel and believing with “all of your heart” (Acts 8:37) you must repent of (turn away from) your sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38; 17:30-31). Then you must confess with your mouth that Jesus is the Son of God (Romans 10:9-10) and then you must be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 22:16). When you obey the gospel of Christ, Christ adds you to His church (Acts 2:47; cf. 1 Corinthians 12:13).

What Is The Purpose Of Christ’s Church?

Evangelism

New Testament Christians “went everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:4). The apostle Paul taught that the church is “the pillar and support of the truth”
(1 Timothy 3:15). Therefore, the primary goal of this web site is to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to “all men” (1 Timothy 2:4). I encourage you to find a church that honors Christ's teaching and worships after the New Testiment pattern. You can find a church near you by clicking HERE.

The New Testament church worshiped (Acts 2:42). The worship assemblies at the churches of Christ are patterned after New Testament teaching and are therefore simple, spiritual, and orderly. The Lord’s Supper. Our Lord commanded us to eat the memorial of unleavened bread and fruit of the vine each first day of the week to remember Jesus’ death (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). Singing. The New Testament examples of singing are always congregational singing without the use of any mechanical instruments of music (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). Prayer. Each service there is time taken to approach our heavenly Father in prayer (Acts 2:42;
1 Thessalonians 5:17). Contribution. New Testament churches were commanded to give of their means for the work of the church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2;
2 Corinthians 9:6-7). Edification. The New Testament church assembled together to encourage and build up each other (Acts 2:42; 9:31). Paul taught the first century churches to use God’s word as the means to build up the church (Acts 20:32). All the preaching and teaching done at the churches of Christ is for the purpose of helping folks go to heaven.

Benevolence.

The New Testament church took care of its own members when there was a material need (Acts 2:44-45). The Christians at the Jay church of Christ fulfill that same responsibility to or for each member. We care for those of the church who are in need (2 Corinthians 8:1-5). As Christians we also have individual responsibilities to help anyone who might be in need (Galatians 6:10; James 1:27).
