Five Great Duties Of Christians


  1. Once a person decides to be a Christian, he by that process chooses some real duties. (Ecc. 12:13-14; Luke 17:10)
  2. Paul tells the Corinthians of five of these great duties in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 also compare 1 Sam. 4:9


A. The Lords people have always been called upon to be on the look out or to watch.

B. There are a number of things for which a Christian must watch.

1. Elders watch for our souls (Heb. 13:17)

2. We must watch and be ready for the second coming of Christ (Mark 13:35-37; 1 Thess. 5:1-7).

3. Watch for those we might teach (John 4:35)

4. We need to watch our temper, tongue, speech.


A. Christians must learn to take a stand.

D. Source of our strength is the Lord (Phil. 4:1).

E. From time to time we need to stand up and be counted.

A. God has always expected his people to be strong.

B. Joshua 1:6-9 Gods charge to Joshua as he took over the leadership of Israel.

C. Elders, preachers, deacons, members must be strong.

D. Christianity is not for weaklings.

E. Courage and being strong go hand in hand.

F. Heb. 5:14 Some never become strong spiritually.


A. Love is the mainspring of life.

B. Love must underlie all that we do.

C. The love of God is seen in our obedience (1 John 5:3).

D. Love must be real (1 John 3:18).

E. Too many love self too much (2 Tim. 3:2).

F. Pleasures take the top spot in the lives of many (2 Tim. 3:4)

G. Even our enemies are to be loved (matt. 5:44-46

H. Receiving the love of the truth is a real problem among men (2 Thes. 2:10)
