CONSIDER SATAN

Job 1:1-5  There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil.  (2)  Seven sons and three daughters were born to him.  (3)  His possessions also were 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and very many servants; and that man was the greatest of all the men of the east.  (4)  His sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one on his day, and they would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.  (5)  When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, "Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did continually.

Job 1:8  The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil."

1:1 – “BLAMELESS & UPRIGHT”

1:2 – LARGE FAMILY

1:3 – VERY PROSPEROUS

1:4 – Close family

1:5 – CONCERNED PARENT – SPIRITUALLY

1:8 – GOD WAS PROUD OF JOB

(This man is mine – he exemplifies all that a man can be.)

THE TEMPTATION

Satan vs. the “Man of God”

Job 1:13-17  Now on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,  (14)  a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them,  (15)  and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."  (16)  While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you."  (17)  While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

Job 1:18-19  While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house,  (19)  and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you."

1.       loss of possessions

2.       loss of family

Satan had power over death -

Heb 2:14  Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

Job 1:21-22  He said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD."  (22)  Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.

Job 2:1-6  Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD.  (2)  The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."  (3)  The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man fearing God and turning away from evil. And he still holds fast his integrity, although you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause."  (4)  Satan answered the LORD and said, "Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.  (5)  "However, put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh; he will curse You to Your face."  (6)  So the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life."

Job never lost sight of “the big picture”

God was proud of Job!

Job 2:7-8  Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.  (8)  And he took a potsherd to scrape himself while he was sitting among the ashes.

Job 2:9-10  Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die!"  (10)  But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

Job 2:13  Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.

Job 6:14-15  "For the despairing man there should be kindness from his friend; So that he does not forsake the fear of the Almighty.  (15)  "My brothers have acted deceitfully like a wadi, Like the torrents of wadis which vanish,

(wadies [streams] of Arabia, filled in the winter, but dry in the summer, which disappoint the caravans expecting to find water there.)

3.       loss of health

Make personal – perhaps you?

4.       family & friends forsake him

A.      When YOU

          1.       Loss of possessions

          2.       Loss of family member

          3.       Loss of health

          4.       Family & friends forsake you

          Who do you blame?

B.      Job 42:10  The LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the LORD increased all that Job had twofold.

C.      God gives Satan the power to rule this world

John 12:31  (JESUS) "Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.”

John 14:30  (JESUS) "I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me”

John 16:11  JESUS SAID THAT “the ruler of this world has been judged.”

Job 1:7  The LORD said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."

Luke 4:6  And the devil said to Him, "I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

1 Pet. 5:8  Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

D.      When these things (go over each) happen – Don’t curse God – PRAISE HIM!

This excludes heaven…..

And it excludes Hell! – Hell is not Satan’s domain! – he will be punished there!

TESTING PROVIDES STRENGTH

Jam 1:2-4  Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,  (3)  knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.       (4)  And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Jam 1:12  Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

PARADOX – Satan’s tempting breeds strength.
